Abortion is NOT Medicine

Women do not get abortions because they want one. A woman considering abortion does not do so lightly, or even willingly. She views abortion as a tough, even tragic decision forced on her by circumstances and relationships. Choice means the ability to freely decide between two or more options. CompassCare’s experience is that most women considering abortion do not feel like they have a choice at all. For a woman abortion represents no choice at all.

If a woman feels able to have her baby, then and only then is her decision really a choice. To serve a woman with a goal of anythingShackles less than giving her the ability to say ‘no’ to abortion is mercenary profiteering, plain and simple. Why? Because most abortions are perpetrated upon women under emotional or physical duress with their circumstances holding them hostage to getting an abortion. This is the norm. Therefore, to sell a woman an abortion under the false pretense of ‘choice,’ is like telling a slave his chains are really a path to freedom.

Furthermore, women facing unplanned pregnancy are in desperate need of ethical medical care. Yet abortion ignores the entire purpose of medicine, which is to care for, cure, comfort, and maintain the health of the patient, and never to harm. Abortion damages the healthy functioning of a woman’s reproductive system, for the sole purpose of ending the life of her preborn child. To call abortion ‘medical care’ is similar to saying physical abuse is true love. Yet this upside down manipulation of language has been used, not only to legalize and perpetrate the greatest injustice in history upon the most vulnerable of society, but also to intentionally mislead women facing dire straits…like telling lambs to find shelter from a storm in a den of jackals. Abuse is not love, chains are not freedom, and abortion is NOT medicine.

Our best hope to save preborn boys and girls out of the fire is to free their mothers from coercive pressure by giving them a vision of their future after having had a child. This requires the provision of appropriate services delivered in the most appropriate way. But the questions remain: What are appropriate services and how should they be delivered in order to help more women have their babies? The day NOCompassCare stops bothering to ask these questions would be the first day of a decline into ineffective mediocrity. Answering these questions and helping other organizations to answer them is what keeps CompassCare’s culture of continuous improvement focused on the mission to erase the need for abortion. Continuously improving ensures that each woman has the best chance at a truly free and un-coerced choice, the ability to say, “No” to abortion.

To that end CompassCare is in the midst of developing a revolutionary Medical Process Management (MPM) system called “Optimize!” An MPM is similar to electronic medical records but on steroids, giving almost immediate feedback and quick turnaround on improvements to service delivery. The two main goals of developing this powerful tool are 1) increased efficiency and 2) multiplication of effectiveness. Increased efficiency means CompassCare is able to make life-saving improvements to the way in which at-risk women are served, in a fraction of the time it takes us now. Ease of multiplication speaks to CompassCare’s ability to transfer those life-saving improvements that much faster to other Pregnancy Resource Centers (PRCs), increasing their ability to reach and serve abortion-minded women, thereby ‘multiplying’ CompassCare’s life-saving results. In short the MPM is a powerful tool necessary to reclaim ownership of ‘reproductive health service’ from Planned Parenthood and the multi-billion dollar abortion racket masquerading as medical care—sparing women from abortion exploitation as well as their preborn babies from the horror that otherwise awaits.

Alpha BetaThe first version of the MPM is being tested now. There are four test sites lined up across the country and the MPM will be implemented by the beginning of October to work out any bugs. Once the system is completely tested the plan is to roll it out to PRCs nationwide in November. This project promises to be a major leap forward, not just for CompassCare’s continuous improvement journey, but for the entire movement of pro-life medical service providers with the potential to reach and more effectively help tens of thousands more abortion-minded women to have their babies.

Please continue to pray for the success of the mission and a speedy end to abortion. Please also, consider donating funds toward this powerful project. CompassCare is the best in the nation at figuring out how to reach and serve women considering abortion. This is not a status but a stewardship which is taken very seriously. This Medical Process Management tool will be CompassCare’s equivalent to shouting the good news of pregnancy center effectiveness from the roof tops. I invite you to consider joining us in defraying the costs of this endeavor.

Christmas: A Battleground for Life

First ChristmasWhat were the times like that first Christmas? Certainly the first public proclamation of Jesus’ birth by the angel to the lowly shepherds was a sign of ‘good news and great joy for all the people’ (Luke 2: 10). It is no coincidence that lowly shepherds were given the honor as the first recipients of the royal proclamation representing the poor, the weak, the marginalized, those out in the proverbial cold and dark of society. It is no coincidence that the worldly powerful had to blindly grope for any morsel of news about this atomic bomb of history. And to the shepherds, this Jesus born in solidarity with them revealed a glimpse into the resplendent glory of the heaven awaiting. Thousands of angels voiced praise to the Most High, Who was now wrapped in rags. It was cause for rejoicing, for the Savior’s birth was ‘for them’ (Luke 2:11), those with rags for armor and pain for comfort.

But there was treachery and scheming going on. A lurking and real danger moved in the shadows. For the hard work of redeeming a lost people; blind, deaf, crippled, possessed, poor and wretched is a war. It is a fight for the dignity and liberation of each person, yes, for exploited pregnant women and their dehumanized babies. This work, while pure joy for those saved, is vile to the politically powerful and met with vitriol. “Then an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, “Get up! Take the Child and His mother and flee to Egypt, and remain there until I tell you; for Herod is going to search for the Child to destroy Him” (Matthew 2: 13). Herod, realizing that the magi who were supposed to report back had tricked him, ordered all the male children two years old and younger within the vicinity of Bethlehem be killed (Matthew 2: 12, 16-18).Christmas Reality

The book of Revelation clarifies what was really happening with Herod and the nativity, “And the dragon stood before the woman who was about to give birth so that when she gave birth he might devour the child” (Rev 12:4b).

The following days, those between Jesus’ birth and His second coming, those times in which you and I now live, are described like this, “And there was war in heaven . . . And they [the believers] overcame him [the great dragon] because of the blood of the lamb [Jesus’ death on the cross] and because of the word of their testimony [how Jesus had freed them from bondage to sin], and they did not love their life even when faced with death” (Revelation 12: 7a, 11). Christmas is a war and the war rages on. The nativity is a battleground for every life.

It is a battle for the soul; the restoration of each human to God is what the cross is all about. And the call of the believer is no different. We are called to the same self-sacrifice on behalf of others, loving God and others more than even our own life. As the Apostle Peter says, “For you have been called for this purpose, since Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example for you to follow in His steps” (I Peter 2: 21). The salvation of others depends on our ability to follow Christ so well, to be so much like heaven as to be unrecognizable by a fallen world, to be so enamored with the glory of God that we consider our suffering in this life as joy in comparison.

Christians are uniquely suited to know who those in bondage are because we also were in bondage. Christians are uniquely suited to understand the plight of the poor and powerless because we too were once poor and found true wealth. And now, so armed with this heavenly virtue of forgiveness and sacrifice found in Christ, the Christian ventures back into the bowels of this cavernous world to face the evil and free its slaves because that is what the King has done for him.

A woman is at risk for abortion because she is a casualty of war, oppressed by a twisted culture, offering death as a solution. A culture bent in on itself, unable to offer hope and real help. She is coerced, pressured to make a decision alone, pursued by fear . . . and the life of her baby hangs in the balance. Our joy is to set her free, to help her insulate her baby from the elements of this stormy world. This is Christmas; hers and ours, the morning star on the edge of night. These are the circumstances for joy, the circumstances that define generosity and the gospel of life.

Merry Christmas! To give online click here.

Women facing unplanned pregnancy make an abortion decision within 24 hours of their first home pregnancy test. It is critical that she can find CompassCare when she is desperately searching for answers. CompassCare’s marketing team is working hard to do just that. With an aggressive online advertising campaign, and a new website and logo design in the works, CompassCare is actively reaching even more women. STD Testing and Treatment

$68

According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC) 1 in 4 women between the ages of 14-18 will contract at least one Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) and 50% of those will have two or more. One of CompassCare’s primary strategies for erasing the need for abortion is to reach women before they face an unplanned pregnancy. Research shows that women experience an STD 2-4 years before an unplanned pregnancy. Consider underwriting the cost of essential STD testing and treatment for $68 per patient.

Transform Fear into Confidence

$350

Not a sane woman alive wants to have an abortion. She feels stuck, trapped, like she needs to have an abortion. Women at risk for abortion are driven by the fear of the unknown. CompassCare exists to erase the need for abortion by transforming women’s fear into confidence. CompassCare provides comprehensive, ethical, and compassionate medical services, giving her the support and security she needs to make a truly informed decision; a decision driven by confidence not fear. $350 provides transformational services for 1 woman, from initial appointment through 12 months of follow-up.

Abortion Pill Reversal

$680

CompassCare recently added an innovative patient services platform called Abortion Pill Reversal. If a woman takes the first pill of a medical abortion and changes her mind CompassCare can help her reverse the effects. The average cost for a medical abortion is $600; it costs just a little more than that, $680, to save her baby.

Is It Possible to Reverse an Abortion?

Halt Free Speech RestrictionsAbortion. It seems so…final. To abort, stop, terminate. The decision to end a pregnancy is so difficult for women precisely because they understand that the life of another human being is ending. But women choose abortion anyway because of the crushing weight of the pressures of life and relationships. Bottom line, most women are coerced into having an abortion. They are not free to choose because they believe they have no other choice. School, financial pressures, life plans, her boyfriend and even her parents all factor in to the decision, and she is in fight or flight mode. Every abortion decision represents an actual tragedy, fueled by the despairing loneliness of soul when every direction seems like it results in the end of someone’s life, either hers or the baby’s.

But what if this tragedy could be averted? What if a woman could reverse her abortion? What if, after starting down that dead end road to terminating her pregnancy she changes her mind? Is it too late to reverse course or can the baby be saved? What if a crisis intervention process could be invented that could be on call and CompassCare could step in at a moment’s notice to help her save her baby? Proverbs 24:11 says, “Deliver those who are being taken away to death, and those who are staggering to slaughter, Oh hold them back.” What if we could literally pull the child out of the very jaws of death?

CompassCare asked these questions and found that the answer is, yes, it is possible to reverse a medical abortion. RU-486 is a two pill abortion drug regimen which costs up to $600 in Rochester. 25% of all the abortions in Monroe Country are medical abortions. CompassCare has just opened another door that was previously closed for women to change their minds and have their babies.

font-style: normal; font-weight: normal; margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;” align=”justify”>Here is how the medical abortion works: A woman takes the first pill which kills the baby by blocking a woman’s natural progesterone, a hormone which sustains the ability of the1237682_untitled woman’s body to provide oxygen and nutrients to the baby. She then takes the second pill which expels the baby from the uterus. Case studies published in the Annals of Pharmacotherapy demonstrate that the same pregnancy sustaining progesterone therapy used by doctors to help women with chronic miscarriage problems also works to sustain pregnancy for women who have taken the first dose of the abortion pill RU-486. And it has been found effective at least 75% of the time with no significant risks to either the mother or the child! This life-saving progesterone therapy ideally must be started within 72 hours after she has taken the first abortion pill.

If CompassCare can get the message to a woman having second thoughts about her abortion decision then there is a very good chance of helping her reverse the effects of the drug. And it only costs $680 to cancel out the effects of a $600 abortion!

CompassCare celebrates the opportunity to provide another layer of choice to women faced with difficult pregnancy decisions by offering this cutting edge abortion pill reversal service to women. And it works!

We have already witnessed first-hand the effectiveness of this life-saving therapy. This is the only option available to the women in Rochester and the surrounding regions that change their mind after taking the abortion pill.

Please consider helping CompassCare promote and provide this essential life-saving abortion pill reversal service with a financial commitment.

Real Results: Lasting Impact

ROI. Return on Investment is the rally cry of all financial planners. And apparently it was important to Jesus too, in light of the severe denouncement of the ‘wicked’ servant who simply buried his master’s talent instead of putting it in the bank (Parable of the Talents, Matthew 25: 14-29). What kind of ROI is the Master looking for in a ministry to which you give? What makes you so excited about CompassCare’s mission that you feel comfortable investing your talents here?ROI

Is it that CompassCare insulates women facing unplanned pregnancy from the overwhelming pressures that drive her to get an abortion? Is it that we believe women deserve to be fully informed in a stress-free environment before they determine the outcome of their pregnancy? Would those be what it takes to receive the Master’s hearty ‘well done’?

Or is it that the future reproductive health of every woman is being protected by CompassCare with services like STD testing and treatment, offered to her at no cost? Perhaps it’s that women feel empowered by the nurses, who give her insight into her pregnancy with an ultrasound scan? Would those be enough for the Master to entrust the organization with more talents?

Well doneMaybe it is that the Master approves of the fact that most women, after being cared for by kind and compassionate nurses, feel safe and secure enough to have their babies, receiving a vision of their future after having their baby boy or girl? The fact that women can come to the emotional oasis that is CompassCare to take a deep draught in the waters of life before diving headlong back into the lonely heat of her desert world might also be just enough for the Master to say, ‘Enter into the joy of your Master.’

0px; margin-bottom: 0px;”>What about the woman who has begun the process of a medical abortion using the abortion drug RU-486 and then changed her mind? Would the ROI be enough for the Master if we could help her reverse that abortion, saving her baby?

The answer is, YES. And yet there is more. The other day, a man and his wife attended a CompassCare Vision Tour. When the tour presentation was over and people were shuffling Proud Papaout, he took me aside, and with tears in his eyes, told me the beautiful story of a woman who courageously refused to have an abortion. Despite the threats of her husband, the baby’s father, she had a son. This son grew up, got married, had seven wonderful children and now enjoys 29 grandchildren. You’ve probably guessed that the grandfather was describing the circumstances surrounding his very own birth. You see, it was not just the life of the little boy at stake but generations of little boys and girls. His mother did not simply say, ‘Yes’ to her son, but to all the future generations as well. She said, ‘No!’ to the stifling air of the worries and cares of this world. She said, ‘No!’ to the iron-fisted oppression of a short-sighted culture and husband.

This woman’s son reminded me that CompassCare is not just sparing women from the pain of abortion, not just saving the lives of babies in the here and now, which alone would be enough to justify the investment. CompassCare is also encouraging women to pronounce a resounding ‘Yes!’ over all future generations of the crown of God’s creation.

What kind of ROI is it that can spare scores of lives just by reaching one? It costs $350 to serve one woman. For $350 you can ensure that the destiny of hundreds, thousands, even tens of thousands can be spared. Now that’s a return on an investment!

At the Heart of the Government Shutdown; Obamacare and Abortion

Jim HardenYou and I are being forced to make a choice. Obamacare brazenly mandates that all U.S. citizens purchase health insurance that directly pays for abortion and abortion-causing ‘birth control,’ or face stiff financial penalties. This violates the religious beliefs and moral convictions of millions of Americans. Curiously, Planned Parenthood (PP), the nation’s largest abortion provider, had a hand in developing these mandates and has been hired by the Federal Government to enroll members in the new State health care exchanges beginning October 1st. However, Obamacare is experiencing massive resistance and is currently in flux. The Senate is deliberating whether to delay funding for Obamacare till January 2015. If they vote to pass the Blackburn Amendment then the deadline for compliance will be postponed for one year.

Twenty-three states have passed measures barring the use of health insurance premiums to directly fund surgical abortion, but there remain several problems even in those states:

  1. Most insurance companies do not have ‘pro-life’ plans.   Cuomo on Reproductive Health Act
  2. Since most plans cover abortion and due to the long-standing Hyde Amendment forbidding federal funding of abortion, an ‘abortion surcharge’ of at least $1 per month will be deducted from each employee paycheck under section 1303 of Obamacare.
  3. All federally subsidized plans available in all 50 States will include abortion and abortion-causing contraception which will be paid for by tax dollars.
  4. Every plan, including those that do not cover surgical abortion, treats abortion-causing ‘birth control’ as a separate issue from abortion. Even if you are fortunate enough to find and enroll in a plan that does not cover surgical abortion, it will cover abortion-causing contraception without co-pay or deductible. These ‘contraceptive’ methods include the Pill, IUDs, the morning after pill (Plan B), and the week after pill (Ella) – which are all proven to create inhospitable uterine environments making it difficult for the fertilized egg to implant in the uterine lining thereby ending a pregnancy (i.e. abortion). This does not even address the extreme cancer-causing nature of these drugs (see National Institute of Health Report and World Health Organization Report).

CompassCare’s policy on contraception stands in stark contrast to Planned Parenthood’s and the prevailing conventional wisdom. Given the government takeover of American medicine via Obamacare and the fact that forced contraception coverage creates a massive violation of religious liberty, we thought it timely to discuss CompassCare’s position. CompassCare educates all patients on all forms of contraception and how they work. However, CompassCare never provides or refers for contraception.

So why doesn’t CompassCare refer for or provide contraception, aside from the obvious carcinogenic and abortifacient nature of a majority of the methods? Doesn’t it reduce non-marital pregnancy and the transmission of sexually transmitted diseases (STD)? The simple answer is, “No.” Why? Because of a sociological phenomenon called “risk compensation.” Dr. Jokin de Irala, Professor of Epidemiology at the University of Navarre in Madrid, Spain, defines risk compensation as people increasing “risk-taking behaviors if they perceive themselves to be at less risk due to a technological preventive measure. The benefits of an intervention can be offset by this increase in risk taking” (video minute 12:30). Dr. de Irala goes on to site examples such as sunscreen use and increased skin cancer; seat belts and increased reckless driving. In regards to sexual activity, if students are told that condom use will protect them from pregnancy and STDs, they will likely increase the number of sexual partners and the frequency of sexual contact, thereby offsetting the potentially protective effects of the technology. Therefore pregnancy and STD rates go up with ‘safe sex’ campaigns because of increased risk-taking behaviors. It’s also important to note that condoms have been proven ineffective at avoiding HPV, Herpes, and Chlamydia (New England Journal of Medicine June 22, 2006 Vol 354, No 25 shows 100% condom use equals 38% HPV infection rate).

According to the Guttmacher Institute 54% of all abortions were given to women who became pregnant during the same month they were using a contraceptive method. The percentage of unmarried births skyrocketed from 18% in 1980 to 41% by 2010, and STD rates are at epidemic levels despite the massive amounts of resources pouring into ‘safe sex’ education. Studies have demonstrated that the introduction of contraception has actually increased the incidence of pregnancy and STD rates as seen in Britain, the U.S., and other places, while rates decline dramatically when abstinence or fidelity is promoted as in Uganda.

Ignoring the facts, Obamacare and Planned Parenthood are committed to providing free, easily accessible abortion-causing ‘contraception’ under the guise of women’s health. Now they want you and me to pay for it through our health insurance premiums or face fines. You and I are being forced to make a choice.

Abortion Rates in Rochester at 40 Year Low!

Amazing! The number of abortions in New York State fell by 13% between 2008 and 2011. In Monroe County abortion rates fell by an astonishing 29%! Including non-residents, the number of at-risk women CompassCare helped to have their babies represents 31% of that reduction! Rochester is in the midst of an abortion trend reversal.

For more than ten years CompassCare has been striving to shake the foundation of the abortion industry and protect women and children by simply reaching 20-25% of women considering abortion. Why is 20-25% the magic amount? It is the estimated profit margin for the abortion industry. The theory is that if the profits were taken out of the abortion industry then abortionists would reduce hours and ultimately close due to lack of demand. Rochester represents an abortion hub. If the current trend continues, Rochester will see a 65% reduction in abortion rates from its recent 2008 high in just five short years. Thank you for the investment of your time, prayer, and finances. The mission of erasing the need for abortion by transforming women’s fear into confidence is working.Abortion Trend Reversal

It is because of the generosity of people just like you that CompassCare has been privileged to stay on the cutting edge of reversing the abortion trend.

When a woman faces an unplanned pregnancy she feels trapped, as if abortion is her only way out. Only when she feels empowered to make the most difficult choice, to have the baby, is she truly empowered to choose. Anything less is coercion, not choice. The services provided by CompassCare and the ways in which those services are provided are designed to give her a vision of her future after having a child.

CompassCare’s goal is to accelerate this exciting trend by reaching 100% more women than last year (just 193 more). Not only will the life-saving pregnancy platform and the Sexually Transmitted Disease testing and treatment services continue and be improved, but exciting new initiatives are being explored and developed such as:

1)    Abortion Pill Reversal: NYS Vital statistics reveal that 24% of abortions in Monroe County are now chemical abortions, using a drug called RU-486. It is expected that the use of RU-486 will increase significantly in the coming years. Many women regret their abortion after taking the first abortion pill and want to change their mind. CompassCare now offers a way for those women to save their pregnancy with research suggesting that 75% of these women will go on to sustain a healthy pregnancy and deliver a healthy child! This new service opens up a whole new vista of opportunity to accelerate the reversal by reaching 100% more women at risk for abortion than 2012!
2)    Mobile Medical Unit: Often women facing unplanned pregnancy have difficulty coming to CompassCare. The use of a mobile medical unit to take all the essential life-saving services on the road to meet the women where they are has worked in other abortions hubs. CompassCare is determining whether it will also work in Rochester, to help reach those additional women at risk for abortion.

We are witnessing that for which we have prayed and worked: reversal of the abortion trend!  Thank you again for your investment in CompassCare. Please consider deepening your investment this year as together we endeavor to reach and save those additional 193 women creating a snowball effect in the abortion trend reversal!

NY to Deregulate Abortionists; Destroy Pregnancy Centers

“Those who don’t know history are destined to repeat it,” said British statesman and philosopher, Edmund Burke. Similarly, those in who fail to fight the machinations of NY politicians will be doomed to their designs at the Federal level; especially when it comes to abortion and Pregnancy Resource Centers (PRC).

Black Population ExtinctionCorning, New York is home to infamous Margaret Sanger, proponent of the destruction of certain races and classes of people and founder of Planned Parenthood. One way she thought to accomplish her agenda was by what she called, “Birth Control.” The African American Community in NY now meets the criteria for an endangered species. On July 1st 1970 New York legalized abortion on demand. On July 2nd, one day later, the first free standing abortion clinic opened in the Rochester/Syracuse region.

In 2010 New York City (NYC), the abortion capital of the U.S., voted to pass a city ordinance restricting the advertising capability of pregnancy centers. At a hearing regarding that ordinance I urged that ‘the vote on this proposed NYC amendment be tabled indefinitely until such a time as a more thorough review of women’s reproductive health service standards can be done so that a more equitable and constitutionally sound alternative can be developed,’ (For my full testimony click here). However, the ordinance passed, an injunction was rendered and we await an appellate decision as to whether or not the ordinance violates the 1st amendment rights of Pregnancy Centers.

Now New York Attorney General, Eric Schneiderman, with close ties to the National Abortion Rights Action League (NARAL), just served a subpoena investigating pro-life pregnancy centers in NYC claiming misleading advertising. Is it a coincidence that just a few days before a NY State Senate bill was introduced in May 2013 that mirrors the NYC ordinance, U.S. Representative Carolyn Maloney of NYC re-introduced her Federal bill to restrict pregnancy center advertising nationwide the very next week? All this just as NY Governor, Andrew Cuomo, vows to introduce his abortion expansion bill making abortion and contraception fundamental human rights thereby paving the way for discrimination lawsuits filed against pregnancy centers and pro-life doctors.

ericschaffNew York has hundreds of abortionists who are not held accountable to current Health Department regulations similar to the debacle with Gosnell just a few short miles to the South. One abortionist who researched the abortion pill RU-486 in Rochester, NY was the Medical Director responsible for a Planned Parenthood office in Wilmington, DA that was closed for what staff RNs called, “meat-market style abortions.”

Instead of investigating to increase standards of care for women in an obviously corrupt abortion industry, NY politicians are seeking to pass legislation reducing the already low bar set for abortionists by insulating them from malpractice in cases of botched abortions as well as permitting non-doctors to perform surgical abortion. Ironically all this is perpetrated under the banner of ‘Women’s Equality.’ The provisions in Cuomo’s heinous abortion expansion bill are summarized here.

There is a legislative cancer in NY State government which, if we are not careful, will spread to the Federal government endangering Good Samaritan pro-life doctors and Pregnancy Centers. It must be stopped in NY or it will continue to metastasize. Please continue raising awareness of this unjust state of affairs. Use social media and the resources available here, write letters to the editor, contact your legislator, preach, pray, volunteer, give money.  Governor Cuomo has until the end of the legislative session, June 20th, to get what he wants. Let’s keep pushing for what’s right, together!

It Gets Worse: What Gosnell Has in Common with Cuomo, Obama, and the Supreme Court

Recently the Orwellian mask of the abortion industry has come off. In some ways it was their choice.

Planned Parenthood stopped using euphemistic ‘choice’ rhetoric knowing full well that the circumstances that drive women to get abortion represent the coercive polar opposite. Perhaps now they think they don’t need the language to accomplish their willfully gruesome agenda anymore. Additionally, spring revealed the fruit of the draconian abortion logic when in a Florida legislative hearing Planned Parenthood lobbyist all but said the killing of a baby born alive should be left up to the woman and her doctor. But in 2008 then Illinois Senator Barak Obama intimated the same thing as he rejected legislation providing full medical care to a baby should he or she be born alive during an abortion.

GosnellYet in some ways the removal of the abortion agenda’s mask was unintentional as Planned Parenthood has been caught time and again in cases of insurance fraud, unsafe conditions, and botched abortions. The Delaware Planned Parenthood currently under investigation is over seen by medical director Eric Schaff who researched the chemical abortion RU-486 for years at the University of Rochester in Cuomo’s New York State. Schaff was quietly asked to leave his position in Rochester for what one inside source at the hospital claimed were human subjects testing violations (We are loath to imagine what that could mean after seeing jars of baby feet in Philadelphia). But no investigation by health departments, politicians, medical peers, media . . . nothing. Silence. Oh, and then there’s Kermit Gosnell  whose house of horrors is located just 3.4 miles away from Schaff’s most recent Philadelphia office which the mainstream media was shamed into covering by outraged citizens taking over Twitter and Facebook on Friday April 12th. According to testimony, Gosnell recklessly harmed women sometimes killing them as well as routinely beheading live late term babies.

Why isn’t Barack Obama launching an investigation into the abortion business? Why didn’t Andrew Cuomo pass a message of emergency bill restricting the abuses of abortionists in NY as quickly as he whipped out gun restrictions after the Connecticut school shooting knowing Schaff was trained in practicing abortion in New York City and Rochester, NY, respectively? Or at the very least why hasn’t he publicly denounced his abortion expansion bill which literally paves the way for more fraud, abuse, and murder under his brazen newspeak banner, ‘Women’s Equality Act’? His anti-corruption crusade rings more hypocritical by the minute. Remind me again how removing the doctor from a woman’s medical care improves women’s healthcare, especially with doctors like Gosnell and Schaff routinely brutalizing them? You can read Cuomo’s abortion expansion bill here.

The chilling reason why Planned Parenthood evades, Obama ‘can’t comment,’ Cuomo keeps quiet,  Gosnell (God help us) ‘snipped,’ and the media was reluctant to cover the story is Personhoodbecause all five of them and their representative constituents are complicit with the U.S. Supreme Court in their belief that personhood can be qualified. The biological difference between fertilization and death at old age is simply a matter of time, not a matter of humanity. What the Supreme Court did in 1973 with Roe was arbitrarily move the line of when a human is deemed a person deserving protection of their God-given right to life. Is it possible that a group of nine culturally, and perhaps agenda-driven, Justices could be wrong? They’ve been wrong in the past. We need look no further than the Supreme Court’s denial of rights in 1823 to Native Americans, in 1857 to African Americans, and in 1927 to the ‘mentally unfit.’ The Supreme Court actually has a history of getting personhood wrong.

Perhaps the framers were not silent on the definition of personhood. Perhaps it is as obvious as the words on this page—God, our creator, has endowed each of us with life. He alone is the giver of life and if you have to ask the question of whether or not some ONE is a person you’ve missed that founding principle altogether: man did not create himself. And if the Justices are so morally out-to-lunch that they entertain such questions then the great American experiment stands on the razor’s edge rather than soaring the sunny heights of liberty. The very deed of deciding the personhood status of any category of human presumes that the decider has authority to dictate and deny the personhood of any category of human.  Once someone or small group of people do so they assume the mantle of the master of all humanity implicitly hollowing out the revolutionary context of America’s birth.

Many morally responsible citizens like me are outraged by the Supreme Court, the mainstream media, Gosnell, Obama, and Cuomo for their utter disregard of the personhood of pre-born boys and girls and the corollary: utter disrespect of all of humanity. In the spirit of Martin Luther King, Jr., “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” Gosnell is not just a run of the mill murderer. He represents the decidedly anti-American view of personhood held by Obama, Cuomo and the 1973 U.S. Supreme Court decision.  The American revolutionary principle that all are created equal whatever your stage or station in the human experience must be core to the notion of personhood, lest all classes of human are at risk of dehumanization by legislative or judicial fiat. The very thought that anyone has the power to determine who qualifies as a person and who doesn’t is anti-American and reflects a blind hubris reminiscent of the empirical despotism against which the American revolutionaries so fiercely fought. If personhood is defined by other persons then freedom is an illusion for all but the ruling elite and the pre-born are just the tip of that age-old iceberg, democide. Either all of us are persons equally or all but the definers of personhood are slaves.

“The word ‘person’ does not apply to the unborn.” U.S. Supreme Court Justice Harold Blackmun, majority opinion author, Roe v Wade.

To whom does the word ‘person’ apply?

The Word ‘Person’ Does Not Include the Unborn–US Supreme Court 1973

A pastor inquired of me recently, “Why is CompassCare so much more effective now than it was 10 years ago?” I gave him an answer which, after further reflection, I realized did not adequately capture the reason for the success.Scoreboard 2012

I realized that CompassCare’s marketing and service process, while found to be one of the most effective life-saving service operations in the U.S., was not effective because of sound research and process development but rather because of the belief driving everything we do. If belief dictates behavior then the better question is, “What does CompassCare believe that has made it so effective at reaching and serving women at-risk for abortions?” Answer: Personhood.

I recently signed the following public personhood declaration with other local, state, and national leaders: “A person is an organism with unique human DNA governing his or her own maturation from conception to natural death. Every person bears the image of God. Any person, therefore, demands our utmost dignity, respect, and protection—man, woman, boy and girl—from the womb to the tomb” (see reverse).  What we believe about personhood has major implications for how we educate our children, treat our patients, elect our legislators, etc. We need look no further than recent history to see what nations do when they redefine personhood for entire categories of people such as Jews, blacks, the mentally handicapped and most recently pre-born boys and girls.

Am_I_not_a_manThe black community understands well what follows when one segment of society decides to use their own definition of personhood—slavery and death. Similarly abortion represents one small group of people—7 out of 9 Supreme Court Justices in 1973—deciding that boys and girls in the womb are not persons (see Roe v Wade). Even more insidious is the manipulative language created by abortion advocates disguising this modern slavery as “women’s rights.” To be sure abortion IS about rights, the rights of every person to be free from the oppression of another man’s idea of personhood. If the definition of personhood is in any way narrowed from the ancient boundaries of conception to natural death, then all are debased and no one is safe.

A high view of humanity is needed, derived from both natural law and God’s law. aminotachildlogoNatural law reveals that a child yet in the womb possesses separate and distinct DNA that governs his own personal maturation receiving only nourishment from his environment. This exactly describes our circumstances except that our voice can be heard. Moreover, God’s law places ultimate value on a human being. The creation account describes humanity in Genesis 1:27 stating, “God created man in His own image . . . .” The Psalmist clarifies further stating, “Yet You have made him a little lower than God . . . .” (Psalm 8:5).

We must wield our resources on behalf of pre-born babies, America’s dehumanized outcasts. Jesus says, “Whoever receives one child like this in My name receives Me; and whoever receives Me does not receive Me, but Him who sent Me” (Mark 9:37).

To respect and protect the personhood of pre-born babies honors both the image of God and the inherent dignity of all humanity. A litmus test for our connectedness with God is our openness to bless and protect all humanity, especially voiceless dehumanized babies. Is it possible that to ignore the plight of this person reveals a soul-sick complacency? We were unholy sinners without rights, voice, or influence before a holy and righteous God. We needed someone else’s voice, power, and wealth to redeem our hopeless condition. By emptying Himself on the cross and defeating death Jesus gave us our life back. Now He asks us to use our newfound wealth for the most vulnerable. In America today to truly believe the gospel message is to be radically pro-personhood. Belief drives behavior.
